    Amy,
Aah . . . the saga of the BLANKIE! I had a very special blankie growing up and slept with it every night until I was 29 years old. It was a blanket that my mom had received as a gift at a baby shower before I was born. All of my parents’ efforts to wean me from the blanket failed. They used to say, “Are you going to take it to college with you?” “Yes,” was my reply. And I did. They used to say, “Are you going to sleep with it when you get married.” “Yes,” I replied. And I did. The morning that I went back to work after having Ariana, and crept into her room and gently placed it on her. It was breaking my heart to leave my sweet baby, and I figured that the blanket, with its 29 years of “Lori” embedded into it, was the closest that she and I could come to being together under the circumstances. So, from that morning on, it became Ariana’s special blanket. But having slept with a baby blanket for all those years, I simply couldn’t fall asleep without something to cuddle up to. So, I adopted one of the baby quilts that I made for Ariana that most resembled my “special” blankie, and I now sleep with that every night. Ariana still sleeps with my special blankie, as well as another one that my mom made.

    So there you have it!

    Lori
