Who Hath a book
Has friends at hand,
And gold and gear
At his command;

And rich estates,
If he but look,
Are held by him
Who hath a book.

Who hath a book
Has but to read
And he may be
A king indeed;

His Kingdom is
His inglenook;
All this is his
Who hath a book.

Wilbur D. Nesbit

I am so grateful that Bryan and I share a love of books, instilled by mothers who read to us.

I had a Mother who read to me
Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea,
Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth,
“Blackbirds” stowed in the hold beneath

I had a Mother who read me lays
Of ancient and gallant and golden days;
Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,
Which every boy has a right to know.

I had a Mother who read me tales
Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,
True to his trust till his tragic death,
Faithfulness blent with his final breath.

I had a Mother who read me the things
That wholesome life to the boy heart brings—
Stories that stir with an upward touch,
Oh, that each mother of boys [and girls] were such!

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be—
I had a Mother who read to me.

    Hi Lori,

    I’ve been reading along on your blog off and on since you sent us the URL with your Christmas card. Lori, I love reading your blog, you have such an amazing talent at writing and expressing your thoughts and emotions. Because we grew up in different states, and because we are different ages I’ve never really gotten to know you. As I’ve been reading along, I feel that I know you so much better. I feel a family/cousin connection that I’m grateful to have!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and pictures, and more.

    These bookshelves are BEAUTIFUL!!!! Y’all did an amazing job!

    Love,
    Brenda

    Those are gorgeous. I keep checking the blog waiting to see pictures. The table looks perfect next to it. What a nice library it is turning out to be.

    Beautiful Lori, must be a relief to have it done! Couldn’t agree with you more about books. I’m almost never with out at least a couple of books that I’m reading. I guess I’ve always been a book worm though. When I was a kid, I used to sit on the bench during lunch and read Nancy Drew… 🙂

    Wow! What an accomplishment. Kara doesn’t buy many books. But very often there is a new stack at least 10 high on her night stand every other week. Thank goodness for the library.
