CREATE

Posted in: Uncategorized

My craft room is a veritable PIGS (projects in grocery sacks) sty.

Craft Room

Our “tornado closet” looks like a tornado hit it–it’s full to the brim with tubs of fabric, some of which I inherited from my Grandma Gold. (By hanging on to her stuff, I can blame my craft addiction on genetics).

Just this week, my mom, sister and I made plans to start yet another BOM (Block of the Month, NOT Book of Mormon).

And I have quietly started up my own little business, Simple-Blessings.Com (or Simple-Blessings.Net)–“lovingly handcrafted jewelry & photo keepsakes.”

More often than not, I feel guilty that I suffer from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hobby Disorder).  But when I watched this message from Pres. Uchtdorf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhLlnq5yY7k), I realized that the desire to CREATE is a divine attribute–definitely not someting to feel bad about.

Of course, finishing things that I start would be even more DIVINE, but perhaps it’s kind of like creating the earth in seven days.  One “day” doesn’t necessarily mean that it was a single 24-hour period of time as we know it.  And so, the books I have that promise a “Quilt in a Day” may likewise not be reckoned according to earthly time–at least not for me.

All this talk about creating makes me want to go to Hobby Lobby this morning…I’m dying to make darling little fabric easter eggs and bird from a new Fig Tree book that I just got. (Or maybe I should brave the ‘tornado’ and find fabric in my stash).

If I actually finish something today, I’ll be sure to post it. 🙂

    I’m glad you’re crafty.
    Someone has to be.
    I am not.

LORI! Is there anything you can’t do? I had no idea you knew how to do the hand stamped silver stuff. I LOVE it! I’m definitely gonna order something from you, but I need to decide what I want. 🙂

Oh, and by the way, I’m feeling like a loser that you signed up for the pass it on thing on my blog. What can I possibly make for you that you wouldn’t be able to make much better? Aaaah!

Whatever! My house is a disaster, I still have 7 lbs of baby fat clinging for dear life to my thighs, and I think that I may have given BT food poisoning last night. Ariana was elbowing me during President Monson’s talk about “inappropriate internet use” during General Conference…because I ignore my children for the greater part of many days while I read about how to stamp silver, etc., etc.

    Who’s the loser?

Certainly not super mom (Melissa Clark) who somehow finds the time and energy to take her kids to the zoo. 🙂

You sell yourself waaaay too short! I can’t wait to see the fabulous thing you make.

I am going to look at your website right now- I need to order a necklace. You are honestly the most talented person I know!

Lori, you are so talented! I am so glad that you posted the link to Pres. Uchtdorf’s talk. Creating is my therapy & sometimes I feel guilty for doing too much of it! Most days at home with a 3 yr old I worry my mind is turning to mush & crafts jumpstart it again! B.T sure scored a diamond in you! I am so glad to have such a talented kindred craft spirit for a friend!

The PIGS thing cracks me up because that is MY craft room for sure. AND I think I know what I’m asking for mother’s day…love your new jewelry – so fun!
