Ever After

On our recent trip to Washington, D.C., Vivi had a terrifying experience at the hotel…

Translation:

BT was herding the kids down to the lobby and I was in the room gathering up the last of our things when I heard a scream of sheer terror.  When I realized that it was Vivi screaming, I hurried out into the hall as BT raced past me headed the opposite direction toward the stairwell.  Apparently, Vivi had stepped into the elevator (alligator) and the doors had closed behind her, trapping her inside all alone.  Thankfully, the doors reopened when I pushed the elevator call button but not before Vivi was totally freaked out.

As scary as the experience was for all of us, it makes me laugh that, anytime I tell her I’m sorry, she says, “it’s ok, momma.  It wasn’t your fault. It was daddy’s fault.”

    So glad she’s OK!

My littlest, Carson, who is now 5 did that when he was 2. His big brother Mitch, who is now almost 14 but then was 10 was being a good helper and walking with Carson up and down the halls. Mitch came in the room and asked if he could take Carson on an elevator ride. I trust Mitch so I said OK but to go up then right back down. We were on the 20th floor of a 40 story building. They wanted to see from the tip top.

Well…Carson got on before Mitch could and the doors closed. Mitch came back to the room sobbing that he lost Carson!! YIKES! They had to shut the entire 40 story building down with a Code Adam until he was found. They found him 2 floors above ours just wandering the halls. The security took him to the main level and he was safely back in our arms!! I should say that there were 4 elevators. I took one, security took another and some very nice floor neighbors took the other 2 to help! I was so grateful!

You are lucky those doors opened again so quickly!

Oh now that is scary. My friend Joy her son did that and pushed the button and got off luckily it was only two floors. So scary. Thank Heavens everything turned out.

You tell him Vivi…. Daddy’s fault!

That is scary! However, I wonder … where was BT going? To each floor in hopes of it opening? That is a LOT of running to catch it! He must have had such a horrified look in his face as he ran past you!

So funny. My niece also called it the alligator…I had a funny story about her as well with the “alligator,” I think I posted it in my first year of blogging. Your entry brought back memories for me. Vivi is cute.

Your post actually had Dan and I laughing out loud!! Both at Vivi’s insistence that it was not your fault but Daddys (totally something my kids would say!) and that your sweet husband didn’t even think to push the elevator call button! 🙂
